Start your journey and learn to throw clay on the wheel with us!

Throwing Beginners I

This class is for total Beginners who never have thrown on the wheel. If you have done already a term of Throwing with us, you should join the Throwing Beginners II

You will learn and practice the wheel throwing techniques needed to create decorative and functional ceramic items.

This class is for beginners which have not done throwing before, or have done it long time ago. You learn how to prepare the clay by kneading it, centering on the wheel, opening and pulling clay up. We make small bowls, platters and little mugs and jars with lids by the end of the term.

You learn about different clays and what effect they have for your throwing and glazing. We also show and teach you glazing with Underglazes, Brush On Glazes and Dipping Glazes and their different application technique.

You also learn about firing and kilns, to ensure your work is on the right firing shelf before it goes into the kilns to be fired.

Age restriction 18+

What to bring:
– An apron to protect your clothes from splashes
– An old towel
– Wear comfy old clothes
– Please tie long hair back and keep fingernails short
– A notebook

Note: The prices include glazing and firing within agreed limits. Clay is charged separately. Course fees are non refundable.   We strictly follow the Health and Safety Regulations for a workshop, so please do listen to your teachers and ensure that you don’t bring yourself in danger.  By booking a class with Bellbird Arts Centre, you accept and agree to the terms and conditions of Bellbird Arts Centre available here.
