Handbuilding Thursday Evening

Hand building is almost as old as mankind and includes every kind of pottery making

Before potters had the wheel, they were creating spectacular pots and clay forms using only clay, their hands, and a minimum of tools they brought function and artistry together.

This class teaches handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, and slab construction.   We discover different surface decorations in combination with the best glaze for your piece. You also will learn which firing temperatures to use for what glaze.

We don’t have a set program of work students have to do.   Look around everywhere and make photos or copy out of books, search the internet and show us what you like to do.   Our teachers will discuss with you how it needs to be done, what techniques and guide you to create your own style.

Our teachers provide individual guidance for all levels of experience with special attention to newcomers. Experienced potters can work on their own projects.

What to bring:
    •     An apron to protect your clothes from splashes
    •     An old towel
    •     Wear comfy old clothes
    •     A notebook

Note: The prices include glazing and firing within agreed limits. Clay is charged separately. Course fees are non refundable.   We strictly follow the Health and Safety Regulations for a workshop, so please do listen to your teachers and ensure that you don’t bring yourself in danger.  By booking a class with Bellbird Arts Centre, you accept and agree to the terms and conditions of Bellbird Arts Centre available here.
