What is Throwing?

According to “The Potter’s Dictionary of Materials and Techniques”, Throwing is “The action of making pots on a quickly rotating wheel using only the hands and, for lubrication, water.

It is one of the most exciting, expressive and impressive skills in pottery making.” Throwing is essentially turning a lump of clay quickly and using the centrifugal power of the wheel and your hands to form a hollow shape.

Not easy at the beginning, you will be jumping between joy, thrill, panic and pride, but once you get it, you can make amazing things.

We have classes for Beginners and for Intermediate Throwers.  Our classes are small, which means the teacher can really concentrate on every single student.

Explore your creativity and the capacity of your hands while working with clay. Some of you might never stop this journey of arts in clay.

Favourite clay to throw with: Lumina Porcelain from Keanes

I enjoyed throwing from the first day I was introduced to the wheel.   Many years of practice and a lot of training in different countries and with different teachers, have given me a good solid throwing skill.

Once I am sitting at the wheel the world around me is switched off and my whole Self is focusing on my hands. I love to show and teach throwing to others.  It has a magic to it and everybody should feel it.   When you form a lump of clay into a nice bowl, vase or plate it is just …. magic.

Classes with me are witty, funny but also well organised.   You get challenged by me from time to time, and if you are in it I promise you will learn it!
